Get blue in Bonita Springs with music fest

There is not a style of instrumental or vocal music that the blues have not touched. There is a universality about it, and that’s likely one of the reasons the Bonita Springs Blues Festival is heading into its fourth year. Everyone loves the blues. And, at one time or another, everyone has the [...]

Bonita Blues Festival returns to banks of Imperial River

There is not a style of instrumental or vocal music that the blues have not touched. There is a universality about it, and that’s likely one of the reasons the Bonita Springs Blues Festival is heading into its fourth year. Everyone loves the blues. And, at one time or another, everyone has the blues.
The quality level of national and local attractions — this year including Chicago’s Nick Moss and the Flip Tops; Michigan’s Motor City Josh and the Big Three; and, from Florida’s East Coast, Albert Castiglia — is another reason the event has been so successful and eagerly [...]

Naples home to two separate art festivals this weekend

The Masters Art Festival held court at Collection at Vanderbilt this weekend featuring artists working in glass, painting, jewelry, woodwork, ceramics and sculpture. The Collection at Vanderbilt is located on the corner of Vanderbilt Beach Road and Airport-Pulling Road just across from the Ritz-Carlton Golf Lodge. Boulderbrook Productions, producers of the arts festival, hoped the location would draw residents who might not normally venture to traffic-heavy downtown Naples art festivals. [...]

Former child star Melissa Gilbert returns to the family that made her famous

Melissa Gilbert is coming home. Nearly four decades after she first took up residence on the prairie, the child-star-turned-TV-movie queen is returning to the material that made her famous. Only this time in “Little House on the Prairie: The Musical,” which comes to the Naples Philharmonic on Tuesday, Gilbert is no longer the precocious Laura. She’s the [...]

Round 2 brings more bands to ‘Indie Fest’

If you build it, they will come. It’s super cliche, but that just might be the mantra Roy Terry IV lives his life by. The Methodist minister has started a church from scratch, built a state of the art performance facility at the church and launched an indie music festival from thin air. And every step of the way, people have [...]

View to a Kiln: Creating raku

Everyone likes a little uncertainty, just a smidge of healthy surprise. If that riddle arrives in the form of something beautiful to behold, so much the better. Raku pottery is such a puzzle, at least in its end result, but its process is simple and straightforward and, as the participants in artist Richard Rosen’s “A Taste of Raku” class learned, no mystery at [...]

Broadway’s ‘Beast’ in world premiere here

David Merrick is possibly the most famous Broadway producer of all time. He’s also, perhaps, the most infamous. Notoriously hot-tempered, but also brilliant, Merrick made a career of making hits on the Great White Way. Now a one-man play exploring his life is making its world premiere in [...]
