Naples-based WilsonMiller acquired by Stantec
Alan Reynolds, the chairman and CEO of WilsonMiller, announced that North American design firm Stantec has agreed to acquire the multidisciplinary planning, design and engineering firm. The firms expect the transaction to be complete by Friday, July 23.

PHOTOS Career change: Collier, Lee classrooms lure teachers from business world
The past two school years, about 22 percent of the Collier County School District’s hires have been teachers changing careers or who graduated college without a degree in education, according to figures provided by the district. That statistic reflects those nationwide, which suggest an estimated 20 percent to 30 percent of new teachers enter the classroom through nontraditional, or alternative, routes.

Collier schools’ reaction is mixed to the tougher education bill that Crist did sign
Last week, Gov. Charlie Crist signed Senate Bill 4, the so-called graduation bill, which will usher in new requirements for high school students to take harder math and science classes and pass end-of-course exams to earn high school diplomas. “We have our work cut out for us,” Collier Chief Instructional Officer Martha Hayes said.
