Marine industry, Collier leaders go full speed ahead to sink Navy ship as reef off Marco POLL
A new tourist attraction could be coming to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico about 30 miles west of Marco Island. It’s the USS George Philip, a decommissioned Navy ship that divers and anglers are hoping to sink and make into an artificial reef.

Controversial Wiggins Pass development hasn’t kept promises made to county
The project was mired in controversy when Collier County commissioners voted to rezone the 10-acre site at the corner of Vanderbilt Drive and Wiggins Pass Road in March 2005. Five years later, the deal that the project’s Tampa-based developer struck to ease the community’s heartburn over Aqua remains unfulfilled thanks to the recession, bankruptcy protection and loose county requirements.

Naples City Council declares 2 stretches of beach emergency projects
Erosion on two stretches of Naples beach amounts to a shoreline emergency, the Naples City Council said this morning.
The City Council voted unanimously to declare an emergency to speed up permitting for a $1.5 million beach renourishment project that would add sand south of Doctors Pass and at Seagate beach.
